Purpose of the guideline: China is one of the countries with the highest incidence and mortality of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and the burden of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is heavy and the prevention and control situation is severe.Esophageal squamous epithelium has precancerous condition and precancerous lesion stage before cancerization. Early diagnosis and reasonable intervention of precancerous state and precancerous lesion can help to improve the rate of early diagnosis and reduce the incidence of esophageal cancer, which is an important grasp for the prevention and control of esophageal cancer. The American Gastroenterology Society, the British Gastroenterology Association, and the National Center for Clinical Research in Digestive Diseases of China have all developed guidelines and consensus opinions on the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of precancerous lesions and precancerous conditions (Barrett's esophagus) of esophageal adenocarcinoma. However, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, which is more prevalent in China, consensus on the definition, diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of precancerous conditions and other key issues have not been reached.
